Pete Rose

Pete Rose is a former star major league baseball player who is the all-time leader in base hits. However, Rose threw everything away by gambling on baseball (and lying about it), thereby destroying his legacy and barring him from enshrinement in the prestigious Hall of Fame. Rose was born on April 14, 1941 in Cincinnati, OH. Sports were an important part of Rose's life during his youth. He

Pete Sampras

I don't know what it is with tennis players, first Andre, now Pete. I realize Pete has been going bald for a few years now, but I don't follow tennis. Last time I saw Pete his hair looked like this:

Much to my surprise, those beautiful locks are slowly disappearing. Here's recent pictures of Pete:

I know Pete is hanging onto what little hair he has left, but he may want to consider an Andre Agassi hair style at this point...

LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers

Oh LeBron James, I am dubbing you the Bret Michaels of sports. Instead of bandannas, which I imagine would be difficult to play basketball with, you use head bands.

Here's a pic of his hair before:

And here it is now. You can see it slowly receding from both sides.

You may defy gravity at times, but you cannot defy nature (even if YOU think you can).

Commissioner of Major League Baseball Bud Selig

Who commissioned that toupee?

Thanks to reader Stan for bringing this toupee to my attention! Stan writes:

"He's turning 75 next month and he must not want to look any older, because without that terrible looking hairpiece I bet he looks like a fossil."

This guy has been the interim Major League Baseball Commissioner since 1992 and the Commissioner since 1998. He's been accused of bad judgment in handling the scandal regarding steroid use among players. If they ever took him to court over that issue, they could just submit pictures of him with this toupee to prove his poor judgment. That would be a home run of a case.

Larry Bird!

Larry Bird, former Boston Celtics star, must seriously need glasses because his hair piece isn't fooling anyone. Notice the two colors of hair, the lighter color on the top and the darker on the sides and bottom.

NCAA Championship Game - April 6, 2009

At least now we know why Larry Bird hasn't attempted a comeback like every other NBA all-star...he definitely let himself go a bit when he retired. One website thought this was a fat guy in a Larry Bird costume. If only that was the case...

Ex-Dallas Cowboy decides to use Scientology as part of getting his life back in order

Here is an inspiring story of a guy who was not just down on his luck, but (in the words of the old blues song) "if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all". A sports reporter found him and wrote a story of his fall in an article entitled "From a Benz to a bike". Briefly, Clayton Holmes was a three times Superbowl winner, a talented athlete and a generous giver who ended up penniless after "a life gone bad" through "misdeeds and mistakes ... late-night parties and long-legged women ... money earned and money squandered." But after the article was written he decided to turn his life around as described in the follow up article :Holmes making strides toward mending his life.

In itself his story is very inspiring, showing that no matter how bad it gets, you can do something about it. But the part that caught my attention was that he has chosen Scientology as part of his road back.

From the article:
Upon arriving in the nation's capital, he immediately contacted the Church of Scientology, a religious movement that had long intrigued him. For the ensuing two weeks, he rose at 5:30 a.m., took the Metro to the church and spent the entire day studying. He recently completed his first Scientology course -- one of the proudest academic achievements of his life. "I already see my studying skills improving," says Holmes, who suffers from ADD and is 17 credits shy of graduating from Carson-Newman College. "I know a lot of people look at Scientology and think it's hearsay or think of Tom Cruise, but I'd encourage people to read about it before making a judgment. All I know is it's helped me gain a proper perspective and outlook on certain things. I hope people choose not to bash Scientology and instead look at me as a person who is in the process of figuring out how to create a better environment for kids."
It's always great to see someone getting their life back together. I wish Clayton the best of luck!

Jose Canseco

In view of the fact that the disgraced steroid-abusing San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds recently tied one of Major League Baseball's most hallowed records, Hank Aaron's lifetime home run record, I decided that it was time to add a profile a washed-up sports celebrity. The first washed-up sports celebrity that I will profile is Jose Canseco.I. Jose Canseco’s Early LifeJose Canseco, born
