Tommy Davidson headlines “Comedy Uniting Communities”

at The Laugh Factory

The first Cops4Causes fundraiser of the summer is scheduled for Friday, June 19^th at the world famous Laugh Factory in Hollywood. This is the first evening of a three-part summer benefit series that will raise money for the organization’s “Returning Heroes Veterans Program,” “Fallen Heroes Scholarship Program,” “International Cop X- Change Program” and “Restorative Justice Program.” Tommy Davidson, Godfrey, Johnny Sanchez, Bret Ernst, and Carlos Alazraqui among others, join the all-star lineup at the Laugh Factory, 8001 Sunset Blvd. on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 8 p.m. Star of The Closer Robert Gossett, (Compton) Assembly member Isador Hall and Honorary Board Chairman Sheriff Lee Baca will also be in attendance to lend their support. Tickets, $25 per person (general admission) and $40 (VIP), are on sale now at www.cops4causes.org. Donations are tax deductible.

COPS4CAUSES is comprised of all levels of law enforcement in raising funds and awareness to give back to the community and benefit children, adults and law enforcement personnel with life-altering afflictions. Today, I ask for help for a friend

In this column, I talk about celebrity-do-gooders, but as you all know, helping out starts at home. This time, I'm asking for help for a writer friend of mine. Lori Hall Steele is an amazing freelance writer. She's been sick with a 'mysterious' neurological condition. At first the docs thought she had Lyme Disease, and she's also been tested for other conditions too, including Guillian Barre Syndrome. They are still trying to find out what's wrong. Lori can't work anymore. She can't write anymore because she's THAT sick. As a matter of fact, I just took over one of her projects.

You know what the kicker is right? Her insurance company has denied all coverage due to a pre-existing condition (you listening presidential candidates?????). Lori is tapped out financially and doctors are still searching for a cause to her condition. Her friends, like me, are trying to help with fundraisers. Whatever you can do, we'd greatly appreciate it. I know you don't know Lori, but just know that this donation is helping Lori directly --- no organizations, no overheads, no committees -- it goes straight to Lori. Can't help financially? Spread the word please.

Taylor Hicks turns concerts into fundraisers for tornado victims

I got this in my email the other day. If you're in the area or going to the concert, please try and help out. Thanks!

"Just wanted to touch base and let ya'll know that I am heading to Alabama and I have teamed up with American Red Cross to help our neighbors in need following last week’s severe weather outbreak in Alabama and Georgia. You all know I'm originally from Alabama and I want to do my part in helping those affected by the devastating tornadoes. The Enterprise and Adamsville communities in Alabama were hit hardest by tornados that claimed 8 lives, and destroyed homes and property including Enterprise High School.

My two Birmingham concerts (March 10th and 11th at the Alabama Theater), will serve as venues for Red Cross staff and volunteers to collect donations. Volunteers will collect donations before, during and after the concert benefiting the tornado relief operation in Alabama. Donations can also be made Saturday afternoon at 12:45 while I am visiting Laser’s Edge in Homewood, Alabama. Just look for the Red Cross volunteers and help in assisting our state in this recovery effort."
